Eco-Commons
Eco-Commons is a unique project that leverages the development of a new storm water management system as an opportunity to provide new wooded and open areas for education, research, and passive and active recreation on the Georgia Tech campus. In keeping with Georgia Tech's focus on sustainability, this innovative concept will provide significant improvements to the quality of life on campus through effective land use, while at the same time serving as an outdoor lab for storm water management and hydrology studies.
In addition to storm water and utility work, Eco-Commons will include the planting of trees and other vegetation, as well as hardscapes in select areas. Beyond the aesthetic improvements, these efforts will offer benefits ranging from reduced erosion to improved air quality. Students and faculty will enjoy additional outdoor educational, research, and recreational opportunities afforded by the Eco-Commons—all in a beautiful oasis set within the urban landscape of the Georgia Tech campus.
Funding for the next phase of the Eco-Commons project has been set at $10 million. Numerous recognition opportunities are available for donors who contribute to this worthwhile initiative.
